Re: false sandalwood

Interesting, Donna
This might make our expensive Sentrycon System obsolete, sometime in the future.

Subject: [CHAT] false sandalwood

Seen this news article, thought some might be
interested .... although I have no idea what false
sandalwood plant is...anyone familiar?

Donna

A plant-based treatment that termites refuse to eat
has been discovered by scientists in Australia. The
insects feed on wood, causing considerable and costly
damage to affected homes.

But a team from the University of Western Sydney claim
the discovery of a lone fence post in a paddock in
central Queensland may hold a solution.

Professor Robert Spooner-Hart says, "It had been there
for between 50 to 75 years. It was the only fence post
that hadn't been attacked in the area and of course,
the question was why."

Two years of testing has found that the post contains
a plant extract called false sandalwood that repels
the insects. It will take a number of years to turn
the discovery into a commercially-available product.
