We have been feeding a cat for several weeks now. We think she belonged to a family down the road where the husband/father had a terrible accident some months ago. Anyway, she has appeared at our door, obviously hungry and avid for attention, but very skittish. She has been living in our garage some time, and we have been closing her in for warmth as the nights have been pretty cold. We don't want to bring her in with our two pampered pets until we can get her checked by a vet, and she is still so skittish that I am not sure I could get her into a carrier yet. I hate to think that she was abused, or at least run off from her previous home - I know that they have serious problems - but her behavior does suggest that. Anyway, I have been feeding her twice a day - morning and evening - in the breezeway near the garage door. For the last two evenings when we started out to bring in the birdfood - do that every night - and close up the garage, we have discovered a visitor finishing off the remains of her supper and spilled birdfood from the tube feeder - a very handsome skunk. This creature is really beautiful, with very long, fluffy hair and the traditional black-and-white markings. Needless to say, we have not gone out to encounter him. It appears that the cat has no problem with the creature - there has been no odor at all, and in the past we have been aware that such a creature was around. Ain't nature wonderful. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT
