Donna,

It's not a matter of "taking him out" hunting. He hunts indoors (mice,
crickets, imaginary objects, etc. ) even when I'm not home.

And he *does seem to need a pet. He was the last of 4, all rescued within a
few years of one another, and doesn't like being alone.
