That's because your frame of reference is getting larger with each season,
or rather, each time segment is a smaller portion of your life.

When you're five one year is 1/5th of your life, so that's a long time!
When you're ten, it's only 1/10th of your life.  When you hit 30, it's
1/30th.  If you reach 100, it's only 1/100th -- just a blink.

I guess the only way to make them seem long is to die young, but I'm not
sure if that's a good tradeoff.  ;)
