Re: help determining measurements

Re> "Vitamin A is usually supplied as a combination of

is usually calculated by adding up the contributions
from each compound."

Hmmm...sounds vaguely, sorta in reverse, like potassium and potash.
Interesting.
Still, there should be a better, more universal, way to list these things on the bottles. fortunately, they frequently list what %age of the RDA the units are. But then, that doesn't always help because often they seem to be using different RDA lists.

Anyway, I know what I plan to use is in the ballpark and hope to have my hair back to normal in a few months. May have to also work with it from the outside.
Thanks.

Kitty, got kinda obsessed by this question -- here is a little more info I found, still not as clear cut as one would wish but may help whatever you are trying to figure out --

Barb - thanks, you are helpful. but whoever invented IU is not. With the explanation on that page, how is anyone to interpret a label?

Sounds like a quote I read in the news today that went something like "Stay the course doesn't mean stay the course."

But thanks Barb, for helping me out.

Kitty, Here is a link with info on IU vs. milligrams. Seems IU is different for each substance based on therapeutic effect --

I have no trouble with most conversions, their are plenty of conversion calculators on the internet. What I am having difficulty with is converting units on vitamin supplements.

I researched on the internet what vitamins and minerals would help a problem I have with my hair. No one seems to want to agree on the RDA for some items and some use metric measurements while others use IU, which I think are International Units. How do I compare IU with the mg requirements I've found?

I did go shopping and found some hair formulas, but none contained everything so I had to buy a few things separately, but I think I have it all now. I sure hope so as I am really losing it.
