!LOL! me too. I turned the darned thing off that first night as much for me as for them. They were so afraid of it, I thought they might die of dehydration before they got used to it. but that night I couldn't sleep becuase of the sound - it's not really loud at all but I'm a very light sleeper and i want complete quiet. So I turned it off for a week for them to adjust. Then that first night with it back on again was a bit awkward, but I too adjusted pretty quickly after that.

I think so too Zem. And since the kitchen is right next to my bedroom, I noticed that the soothing sound of running water (once I got used to it) also helps me to sleep better.
