Judy, that is ‘Black Lace’. What zone are you?Carolyn Sent from my iPad On Oct 11, 2018, at 3:30 PM, Judy Browning <5*@rewrite.hort.net> wrote:
There's a black cutleaf elderberry in a yard near me. Blooms pink in the spring. I've never seen any dieback. They either prune it to about 6 feet or that's it's habit. It's a gorgeous thing and I want one for myself every time I go by there. Judy On Thu, Oct 11, 2018, 7:21 AM Carolyn Magnani <9*@rewrite.hort.net> wrote:
Gene, thinking back I had 3 varieties of Sambcus and they all died back even in the warm winter years. I had those in my last garden. Isn’t your winters about like ours? Carolyn Sent from my iPad On Oct 11, 2018, at 9:14 AM, Carolyn Magnani <9*@rewrite.hort.net> wrote:
Thank you, Gene. Yes, Conifers have a grip on me but woodies have always been my favorite. Carolyn Sent from my iPad On Oct 11, 2018, at 8:34 AM, Gene- NetSurfUsa <e*@rewrite.hort.net> wrote:
Do not know, Carolyn First year with the Black Lace. My first Elderberry of years ago died back couple of years in a row, then settled in. I am hoping my Black Lace does not go through that. Ask me again next spring. My Tough Stuff hydrangea blooms in pink as well. I have not tried to change pH as yet. Have to be careful with dwarf conifers… they are addictive. But I get held back in that area for I garden mostly in shade. I also had to prune thru out the season as it would get long branching growth but loved the lacey black foliage. Do you have suggestions to get my Tuff Stuff Hydrangea bloom blue. I have tried all kinds of additives with no success. I was able to maintain a blue bloom on Endless Summer with little effort. Do you have dwarf Conifers in your borders? There so many choice varieties.
