Donna,
We've been growing a Scotch Heather, Calluna vulgaris 'Blazeaway' for some
time now with reasonable success.  This is in our Conifer Garden, which gets
absolutely no attention whatsoever, except occasional weeding.  No watering,
no fertilizing, nothing.  Might be a good one to try.
