Re: Re: OT Flower Pots
Around here you can always find aproject that takes nothing more than elbow
grease or ingenuity. My first year as an MG intern, I put in 700 hours. 4
hours was at the H&G show, for which, you're right - I had to pay to park.
Since then I put in 4-500 hrs a year, usually none at the H&G show. I weed
and water at the display gardens, I work on labels for seed packets and
brochures and such. I help clean and package seeds. I drive to nurseries
to pick up donations. I gave a talk on how to buy bulbs. I worked on every
plant sale. Materials like labels and ink cartridges are reimbursed from
the funds. The course in 2000 cost me $80, for which I got 48 hours of
classroom time and scads of educational material. The first yr I had to
volunteer 48 hours, but now it is only 20 hours a yr. You also need 6
education hours per yr, but free seminars are offered so it won't cost you
to keep up. But the best thing is all the nice people I've met and worked
with. I really believe I got the better end of that $80 deal.
