I remember discussing this a while back.
Marge who lives only about 30 miles north of me has to dig up and store her 
cannas. I can leave them in the ground, but they are in a well protected spot. 
In another spot they didn't survive one winter, but I think they rotted, 
because we had more than double the rainfall that year.
