That's what I would do. I don't know what you do with yours in spring but I cut mine to about 2 1/2' from the ground and they grow about 15' or so in a month or so. Yours should grow back pretty quickly.

Speaking of Musa basjoo, when a storm topples the top half, is it best to
cut the flopped part to let the interior portion grow? Some of mine were
shredded, others were broken or bent at a 90 degree angle.
