If it remains a category 1 I doubt any of my friends will leave. Most of them were born there.

Self-pollinating seedling, Noreen. I'll save you some seeds.
It looks for now like Rita will slide by us just as Katrina did. But Zem has friends in the Keys and likely a better idea about what's going on.

Jim, sounds very interesting. Is it a self polinator??? Did you grow it
from seed or is it grafted?? Curious.
P.S. Hope you don't feel too much from Rita in your area, besides maybe some
healthy rain.

Have to say, however, that Ms. Fatma's Caribbean Red papaya seems to
like this weather. It now has seven fruits in various stages of development and more setting daily. This is an amazing tree. It was less than a foot tall when we planted it in late spring; it's now at least 6 feet tall and flowering and fruiting like mad. Makes me wonder if it couldn't be grown as an annual in a few zones north of here. Maybe Holli, even, could add one to her tropical garden; it's also an attractive tropical plant.--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHATIsland Jim Southwest Florida 27.0 N, 82.4 W Hardiness Zone 10 Heat Zone 10 Minimum 30 F [-1 C] Maximum 100 F [38 C] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT
