Galveston hurricane of 1900


Last year, I read "Isaac's Storm" about the great hurricane that  
killed up to 8000 people in the Galveston area. Aside being a  
riveting  and now eerie look at a catastrophe, it was another  
revelation on how human nature and its corollary, politics  
contributes to disasters. And while accuracy from such a distance in  
time is impossible, best estimates have that hurricane as a strong  
category 4...
