This is all hearsay, Theresa, because I only know what I read, although I've got one I bought at the local super sitting on the kitchen table. It's supposed to taste like a Persian melon. It grows on a bush that's roughly 4 by 4 feet. It's happy in a pot. It's in the nightshade clan and, in fact, looks somewhat like a small eggplant--except it's yellow-orange with purple stripes [actually quite attractive]. It's native to Peruvian highlands--although it is no longer found in the wild. Apparently, it's an important fruit crop in New Zealand. I bought this one to try for taste and to collect seeds.

Nope- never heard of it. Is it tasty? How big of a bush does it grow on?

Any zone 9 or 10 compadres grow pepito dulce? It's that hand-grenade size melon that grows on a bush.
