I have been there 2 times.... both times it was so interesting. Built by a man that a did metal work back east then moved his family out to CA. Interesting story. The first time one of his sons was there visiting. The ceilings and interior are worth seeing too. We had a great tour guide last time that told such interesting family stories. 
Well worth your time if you get to go.

Yes very dry, Lotusland will still look good but you are right, the SB
Botanic Garden will probably be very dusty. At least the fire up near
there is out.
I never heard of Casa del Herrero before, I am looking at their website
right now. Specifically the photo of that tiled fountain. I want that
real bad. :-) I bet husband could make one of those.

yes you can.... I have seen your picture!  I would love for you to
come....
we could have a great time.  Get your reservation.
I haven't been to the zoo there.  I have been to the Botanical Gardens,
Lotus land, and Casa del Herrero.  I don't think I have been there at
this time of the year.  I know they are so much drier than usual it may
not be as great as it could be in a wetter year.
Jesse, are you getting rain today yet?  We are just missing it.  I would
love to have an inch this time.

have been invited to my sisters place in Santa Barbara Sept 12-20th.
Do any of you have any advice on gardens to see or I would also love
to take a watercolor painting class.
Any advice this time. I will fly into LAX on the 12th. I looked up
Huntington Gardens and that looks wonderful. Any advice on that?
