Re: OT - shopping note

For me "made in China" is synonymous with cheap plastic crap. It reminds me of all the junk that was "made in Japan" right after WWII. I do try to avoid it whenever possible, and when I have to buy things made in China I must admit I don't expect much.

Yeah...how's that working, anyway? I would think you'd spend an awful
lot of time shopping around.

There have been problems w/ Chinese seafood, toys, pet food and a myriad
of other items lately. I don't buy anything from China anymore.

Not sure about the warning notice, there have been so many lately.

But it is
not uncommon for anything packaged or assembled with part from foreign

countrys to paste some type of careful wording leading you to believe
it was totally from the US.

Is it my
imagination or did I read recently a warning about seafood imported
from Asia, or China, which had excessive levels of toxic
chemicals? This week the local
A&P has a freezer case set in the
middle of a central aisle with big "special"
signs. The bin contains
packages of various seafood, most specifically salmon. All the
plastic packages are emblazoned with an American flag and the words
"Great American Seafood." The salmon is large fillets - looks like
three to a package - says 2 1/2 pounds - for $12.00, which is very
cheap. On the back of the package in small letters are the words
"Product of China."
What am I missing?
