My other cat was named Spot, so Spike just seemed a natural name for the next one. Later we got a little all-black kitten. I wanted to name him Spade, but my husband thought that sounded bigoted. I also wanted to name the dog Jammer so we would have the Cats & Jammer Kids, but he thought Jammer sounded crude.

Is that when you named him Spike? :-) Or did he just live up to it. Mine fall off the coffee table regularly but that's because I absent-mindedly leave the paper there with the edges hanging over. They walk on the paper but suddenly there's no table under it. You'd think after a while they would stop walking on the paper. All his friends are visiting through the bars. Incidentally, I haveput a heavy throw over the top so nobody else gets a leg caught. zem ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jesse Bell" To: Sent: Monday, September 17, 2007 2:17 PM Subject: RE: [CHAT] PercyMe too....ya'll have been on my mind a lot. She suggested I try to slowly reintroduce him to the colony since he is now "different." Youshouldhave seen the look on his face with his blue Elizabethan collar inplace.I must say I was thoroughly cursed by him. At any rate I have put him in Otis's huge (and now unused) crate with his own food, water and litterbox. He is in the middle of all the other cats, but nobody can bother himuntilhe is a little more sure of himself. I'll probably keep him corralled untilhis stitches and collar come off in two weeks. I'm going to give himhisantibiotic and pain medicine now. zem ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jesse Bell" To: Sent: Friday, September 14, 2007 9:25 AM Subject: Re: [CHAT] PercyOhhhhh...I'm so sorry to hear that Zem. My vet has a three-leggedcatnamed "Tripod" and I have a friend who also had to do that totheircat. It was an outside cat and it was on the roof and tried to jumpfromthegutter of the house to a tree and got it's leg caught in the spacebetweenthe roof and gutter (gutter was in need of repair I would say) andwashanging upside down with a broken leg. Poor baby. But after the amputation, they both get around just fine. Tripod is an awesome cat. Zemuly Sanders wrote: Thanks, you all. I'm sure he'll do fine. The vet called andsaidtheleg was not healing properly at the point where the skin had beenbroken. Hesuggested amputation was the best route to follow in this case, sothatiswhat was done. I had to also consider the cost factor, andamputationat$800 was less than half the cost of having the ankle "pinned" andfrozen inplace. In addition pinning was not going to be guaranteed because ofthelarge open wound. At any rate, Percy will be fine since he never goes outside anyway. I'm sorry he has been through such an ordeal, and I'm sorryit'scosting me so much! We will both adapt, I'm sure. I will pick him up tomorrow afternoon. zem---------------------------------------------------------------------To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net withthemessage text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT---------------------------------------------------------------------To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT-- Pam Evans Kemp TX zone 8A--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT Jesse R.
