My house looks pretty darn good. Then again I am married to a man who actually enjoys cooking and doing laundry and doesn't mind helping out. He cooks, does he laundry, washes dishes (no dishwasher here!) and cleans the bathroom (can't handle the fumes because of asthma). I dust, vacuum and mop the floors, and we share the rest.. It works well for us. The only room in our house that is messy is our bedroom. The bed doesn't get made often (hubby works nights so he's in it for much of the day) and there are books everywhere. Hubby's dresser top and desk look like a cyclone hit it, but I figure if that's the only areas he's a slob in I'm lucky...LOL
