OT - bad day
Some days the best thing one could do would be to stay in bed with
the covers pulled over one's head. The problem is how does one know
in the morning that this will be one of those.
Yesterday was like that here. We had been having trouble with our
cable, telephone and internet company for some days, and yesterday
morning they assured us the problem had been fixed. It had not, and
I had to spend annoying time to persuade them to do something more.
I won't bore you with all the irritations of the day, but they were
added to the fact that it was an awful cold, humid, overcast day that
looked like rain but nothing fell.
Then late in the afternoon, we decided we need to take a run to PetSmart
to get in a supply of cat food since we plan to go to the State Garden Club
Fall Conference in Binghamton next week, and we were running low. We
have figured that we save enough by buying cat food in bulk there instead
of at the A&P to buy a tank of gas. Anyway, the rain finally began while
we were loading the car. Then on the way home an unlicensed Hispanic
man ran a red light at a major intersection and demolished our left front
bumper. He turned into the cross-road where we were headed and stopped.
We pulled in behind him, and he put his car in reverse and backed into us,
finishing off the rest of the front end. Fortunately no one was hurt. We
called 911 and the police got there in about 45 minutes. By that time the
rain was pouring. The driver of the other car was talking excitedly into
cell phone, and within minutes a bunch more Hispanics had gathered.
We stayed in the car with the windows up. One of the men kept knocking
on the window, saying "No cops, I pay!" Of course it is required to report
an accident even when no one is hurt. When the police finally came, the
group assured him that the brother of the driver had a license, even though
he had not even been in the car.
Anyway, you get the picture. It was another hour before we were allowed
to limp home - the car would still drive though it was dragging parts, etc.
Today has been almost equally annoying, but at least not disastrous.
Coping with insurance companies, still arguing with the cable company,
and grading disgracefully bad examination papers from the Horticulture
School that was held on Long Island - that's another bad scene, but I
won't get into that now.
I should have stayed in bed both days.
Thanks for letting me vent.
