We have very hard water, too. I clean out sprinklers with white vinegar and water.

I have to drag hoses..... which in over 100 degree heat is tough. 
We have such hard water that I don't think the sprinklers would work for 
very long without lots of work. I can only use the single hole sprinklers. 
The others all plug up too quick.
