Re: Another Market gone

To clarify for Jeff Ball--the way the branding will be done is that P. Allen
Smith will write about a product--a 3-pak of Neon Gerbera daisies or a
garden gnome, for instance. He will rave about them, and there will be a
coupon in the magazine to order the plants or gnome. The way WD does this
is that it contracts with a grower or a product manufacturer and has them
set up an 800 number and post office box. The grower or manufacturer handles
all the orders and ships directly to the customer. WD guarantees a certain
volume and gets a percentage of the retail price of the sale. This is the
way they have handled products in the past.

The branding, I imagine, will be with a P. Allen Smith endorsement or a
Weather Channel tie-in. He is a large corporation, and WD wants to use his
TV appearances to further their circulation, too. I believe you will see
plugs for WD on his segments on the Weather Channel. Probably WD will have
to pay for those, I'd think. I'm not privy to most of the details for
obvious reasons. But, this was the general way it was explained to me.

After this explanation, I was told he has an 18-month contract, and if it
didn't work out, they'd like to talk to me again. I don't think I want to
bother.
