Enabling tools

As this boomer reaches (gasp!) a less mobile stage in my life, with
arthritic knees and herniated discs, I've had to adapt many of my gardening
practices. You may have readers that are at this stage, or be approaching
this stage yourself.

If so, check out the Cobra-head weeder. www.cobrahead.com While I liked it
well enough a year or two ago, and recommended it to my readers and the
state Master Gardeners, I didn't really fully appreciate it until this
month. I can sit on the ground, or on my trusty Ames Lawn Buddy, and tackle
the weeds in my garden virtually pain free.

The Cobrahead snags nasty Bermudagrass runners and Duchesnea, uproots Rabbit
tobacco and small Privets, and does so in nearly perfect balance, with no
aggravation to arthritic thumb joints. It's just long enough to give me the
extra reach I need while sitting and working the garden beds too, without
being in the way.

If you've found another great tool for the aging, arthritic gardener, I'd
like to hear about it, too.

Daryl
