Re: News from the California Pack Trails

Just a quick comment on PW.
I noticed, in 2005, a difference in consistency of their product depending
upon the licensed growers/distributors. The plant that got me checking this
out more in-depth was the Limelight Hydrangea. Both sets of plants were
healthy and good value for the customer but the pruning strategy was
markedly different- one group had more stems and was shorter, (approx 15
stems and 16-18"tall); the other had fewer stems and quite a bit taller (6-8
stems and 24"+.)
Other PW lines had differences but certainly not as dramatic as the
Limelight.
Has anyone else noticed this?
The following questions arise: is this acceptable? does it really matter?
does this reflect regional preferences as opposed to on-site pruning
practices? how wide ranging are parameters for a franchised plant?

As far as PW marketing strategy goes- anything that they- or any other
producer- does in the line of advertising that our customers see is a good
thing. And the PW ads are very effective. Along with our own lines, we do
offer some branded collections of which PW is one.
Is this worth a story or two? How companies like Proven Winners, Floral
Carpet and Easy Elegance Roses, Steppables, etc. are advertising to the
general public, the benefits derived from the local vendors etc.
