Net neutrality lost in House committee
The Markey amendment (to preserve net neutrality) which was attempted
to be attached to the COPE Act, lost in committee 22-34. Democrats
Rush, Green and Gonzales all voted no against the amendment, and
against net neutrality. The House Energy and Commerce Committee is in
final mark-up of the COPE Act, the AT&T/Verizon/Comcast sponsored
legislation that will give you about as much unfettered access to the
Web as you have choice in cable providers. Once final markup is done
it is on to the floor of the House and a full vote. Then it is on to
the Senate where it is NOT a done deal there. So there still may be
hope to preserve the Internet like it is now instead of the way cable
and phone service is today.
