Re: Good news on an old topic/ & Related
My chapter of Master Gardeners held their first symposium this past
Saturday. You would find lots of surprises in the make-up of the group
attending. Perhaps somewhat in the topics presented for the day.
First of all the limit was 100 due to the size of the building. That
goal was met. Title was "Smart Gardening - Working With Nature". Speakers
were in their 40's and 30's. One in probably late 40's or early 50's... hard
for me to tell for I am old enough the almost everyone looks young to me.
First talk up was "Exploring Sustainability and Nature Based Design". Next
was "Rain Gardening" by a landscape architect with a major firm. A young
team presented "The Life Cycles of Butterfly Gardens" and finally
"Xeriscaping for Indiana" The very attentative audience also held members
that were in their 30's and perhaps a couple of younger.
We also have an active Children's Garden in our chapter. Master
Gardeners also work with local 4 H among other youth groups.
Has this new found attention to youth in gardening a rediscovery of what
was there all along?? Perhaps we are paying attention to your own roots once
more.
