Re: Nursery deaths

How sad for you. I have the opposite here - 4 nurseries - all independent,
closer than any Walmart and only marginally further than the nearest
supermarket. One seems to be doing fine in the transition to 2nd generation, the
others are still first generation, but getting older. Marketing is still a
challenge though and rather dated. None have asked for my email, but I do
have a loyalty card with a number of hole punches in it from one.
The unique character of the nurseries are what drives people to them but
alas, like independent book stores, they are a dying item.

I say all this with some nostalgic sadness but not the despair I have
heard
from others about big box stores. In range we have a KMart, a WalMart, and
a
Lowe's, all fine for fill-in annuals and an occasional great find I am
particularly impressed with Lowe's which has a good selection,
professional
merchandising, and friendly and mostly quite knowledgeable personnel.
There
is really only one thing I miss. I don't know their names.
