Re: Blogging Compensation
Geri -- I suggest you get a clear understanding of what is involved in writing for the blog. Beside writing the articles, some companies have complicated and time consuming formatting requirements. Even with templates, formatting can take up a lot of time.
You also will want to know if the content is work for hire or if you retain the copyright. I retain the copyright for two major publications and one blog I write for and can repurpose those articles. If you have a lot of already-written articles, which have been published and you retain the copyright, you can repurpose those as a retailer's blog entry.
If photos are required for the articles, there may be restrictions on photos, such as no stock art, no budget to pay for photos or no brand product images (unless carried by the retailers). That frequently means you use your own photos without remuneration or beg photos. I hate begging photos.
For a blog, I've been paid as much as $500 per 500-word piece, but most offers seem to be in the $50 to $150 range for 300- to 400-word pieces. The low pay is why repurposing articles can be valuable.
