Re: Three Edibles
Doreen,
If I could only plant three edibles, I'd die. But if were I forced to
limit my plantings, they would be tomatoes, garlic, and sweet potatoes. Sweet
potatoes? They last a year after harvest and they can sustain life nearly
by themselves alone.
Tomatoes - any of the big old heirloom slicers like a Brandywine or German
Gold, or maybe the blacks, like Cherokee Purple, Paul Robson, or Black
Krim. The bigger cherries like Chadwick and Sweet Treats are very good,
too. Come on, really, only one? I usually grow about 30 varieties.
Garlic - Almost any big bulbed hard-neck.
Sweet Potatoes - Centennial does really well up north.
