Hi Gene,
I use Google + for clients. There are a fair number of garden writers using
it. Primarily, the reason to use it right now is for google search
placement. You can interact, but you can also schedule posts.
Even though it is still a small network (in comparison to, say, Facebook),
it belongs to Google and Google drinks their own koolaid. Having a page and
some scheduled posts will help your search placement to some degree. (Even
though they won't tell you that.)
