Paraprosdokians

Paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a
sentence or phrase is unexpected and frequently humorous. The word comes
from the Greek, combining para (against) and prosdokia (expectation).
Winston Churchill loved them.

Here's one that cooks may quibble about, but which pedantic gardeners will
appreciate:

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting a
tomato in a fruit salad.

Cheers,
Catriona
