Excellent points, Jeff.

I think a major flaw with these websites was mixing product sales 
with information.  Product sales so clearly came first.  information 
second.  The result is that the information is more suspect -- it 
looks more like a lure than it does serious communications.  Perhaps 
this is my bias.

The other thing that I find very off-putting and forgive me if I have 
mentioned this in previous posts, is the attempt to appear as if 
these websites are going to deliver information customized for your 
garden.  Type in your zip code and whallah!  Your 
planting/weeding/fertilizing schedule appears.  Problem is, the 
information was so general as to be nearly useless except to a very 
beginner.

I am certain that the web has a place for garden writers, we simply 
have to invent it.  Time for a new model....
