The main issues for non-editorial usage are similar to editorial. Basically:
size, distribution and exclusivity.  i.e. how large a part of the label the
picture will be, how large a distribution the product will have, and who
retains the copyright of the image. Also to be considered is whether the
company wants to use the image in any other promotional applications like POP
displays, advertising etc. Prices for this sort of thing can range for $100
or less for a local company to thousands for a buyout of an image for
national distribution. There is an  excellent book on the market called
Pricing Photography, that your friend may want to pick up. My tattered copy
has saved me thousands over the years. Sometimes it helps just to ask the
company what they typically pay and what rights they want to secure.
Occasionally, as with publications,  they will even have a fair contract
already written!
