Thought some of you might find this of interest:

Wired, which through a series of cultural accidents in the mid-1990s became the style arbiter of Internet language use, admitted yesterday that "there is no earthly reason" to capitalize "Internet," "Net" or "the Web." It announced it will no longer do so. The capitalization of the words grated on proponents and advertisers in the mid- and late-1990s, as it lended a sense of desperation and true-believer attitude to Powerpoint presentations. Arbitrary capitalization of important concepts had been relegated to 18th Century letter writers, the cadre of insane veteran letters-to-the-editor authors, and - until now - internet journalists. The internet, in case readers had not yet inferred, is just another medium. Wired apologizes.
