NEED ADVICE: I'm writing an article on Winter Sowing for zone 5, and
have tried this myself, but failed in one aspect and am looking for
success tips. If you havent tried it, here it is in a nutshell: winter
sowing involves seed starting in simple plastic tubs and left outside
from winter to spring. The tubs (such as a plastic quart-size sherbet
container) are punched with drainage holes, filled with a seed-starter
medium, seeds, and a lid (also punched). The problem I had was with
labeling, I used a permanent marker and labeled each container on top
and side, however, the moisture of the snow and condensation removed
every trace of marker, so I ended up with tubs of mostly unidentifiable
seeds (since I started with seeds I swapped and hadnt grown before
this).
I've considered suggesting the use of a journal, where different
containers are used, and the contents are logged, based on the type of
container. Any other ideas? I read online where someone used duct tape
on the bottom of the containers with a permanent marker but don't see
how that would work either.
Thanks, Carrie
