Re: Black leaf plant?

I actually kept the literature we got with the plant at the 2004 GWA conference and can confirm it's Sambucus Black Lace.

I have 3 growing in my zone 5 garden: one in full, hot baking sun, the second is heavy shade, and the third in part shade.  All 3 made it through the winter which is saying alot since the root systems were tiny; most of the Knock Out roses and hydrangeas I got and planted at the same time didn't fare as well.

None are getting any supplemental water and we've had a very dry season.  There's no sign of drought stress, wilting, etc.  No flowers yet on any of the three plants; the leaf color doesn't seem to be affected by the light.  I'm hopeful this plant will earn a permanent place with its lacy, purple foliage.

Sounds like the new "Black Lace" elderberry from Proven Winners
plants.  Looks to take over where Japanese cutleaf maples aren't hardy
enough.  I got one last January and have it growing.  Not bad, so far.
Only supposed to get to be four feet tall.
