It occurs to me that Mr Cheney doesn't pay very good attention to his
gunsights either.

When I was volunteering at the Arnold I was impressed by the courtesy of
visitors. I was active there for 12 years and the staff up through the
director is so glad someone else is interested in what they are growing that
an extra effort is often made to help those people.  However, it also goes
the other way at times,  One time 0more than 20 yrs. ago) a man called from
eastern Canada to find out how to contact the North American Lily Society.
Since we had a book of such info two steps away I told him the address we
had.  A few weeks later a nice donation arrived from him.  Three years ago I
was walking with a long time friend in The Bussey Hill section of the "Arb"
and we were having trouble finding the Acer griseum.  The director was
nearby and politely and warmly pointed us in the right  direction.  Having
had contact with people from similar institutions it seems that such conduct
usually accompanies an interest in plants.

I wonder if VP Cheney pays any attention to the natural world beyond what is
in his gunsights?
