Re: Rain

I have dumped first 3 and then 3.75 inches out of the rain guage in the last
two days. --We have rain in Florida. We are still in a drought because our
rainfall has been so low in the last few years, but thank goodness, we are
getting some rain this summer. Our average is 51.81 inches a year and I
believe we are still far under the mark.

I have been reading the posts about the rain gardens with interest. I hadn't
been aware of them--have had my nose so firmly attached to the grindstone
this year that I'm barely aware of anything. At any rate, once I finish the
current project, I have every intention of learning more about them. Where I
am, in a very rural area where the soil is so sandy that there are no
puddles after 6.75 inches of rain in two days and at least 6 inches during
the previous three days--I wasn't here to mind the guage but dumped a full
load out when I got home. I think we may have a natural "rain garden" in
that rain simply sinks down and migrates into the holes in the karst.

I lived in Montana once, where the average percipitation was 12 inches, and
had dreams--nightmares, really--of turning into a tumble weed. Too dry! My
hat is off to people who garden in that situation--it drove me crazy, even
in greenhouses.
