Re: Speaker Fees

Katie, The answer to your question is not a simple one. Much depends
on who the speaker is, what they bring to the table and what the
facility is looking to accomplish. First, is the BC charging for the
program and who is their audience? Are the looking to grow their
membership?
A local speaker giving a talk on flower arranging or growing roses
may be happy with that amount. It takes time and effort to put
together a quality program and there is always a cost. For
professionals it can be appreciable and we expect to be compensated
for our time, investment, experience and talent. For us, it's a job
and working for free is not an option. That said, Jeff Ball and I do
free programs for our local library when asked. Regional and
national personalities charge what the market will bare. Could be
hundreds, could be thousands. Well known names can be a big draw and
well worth the money. I'm sure the newly created GWA speakers bureau
will have more input.
