Hell, I'd go even to Oklahoma for that, at least once the temperatures go
down a bit.

When I talk to small garden clubs within easy driving distances, I take what
they usually pay a speaker, pointing out tactfully that I am not a
Cooperative Extension agent. Chicken and cole slaw is nice. Book sales at
authors margins don't make much of a dent. But I will say that I recently
spoke to not a garden club but a retired teachers organization and they are
much more enthusiastic book buyers than garden clubs. Some venues, like the
Philadelphia Flower Show, don't pay at all, but they increase visibility.
