Re: If you could design the perfect office...
My dream office would be more about placement than design.
As Elizabeth Lawrence did, I would like to do too.
A view has become more important to me than the things around me. At one time, I was satisfied with the warmth books brought me, now I want a view; a view of my garden.
With my desk parallel to a window, I would welcome the light like Elizabeth Lawrence did. Through a slice of light, I could witness the change of seasons, welcoming color to move me. With the shadows of the mullions, I could tell the time. With a view, I can pause and stare as the wildlife sip nectar from a flower.
Positioned to look out, it wouldn’t matter what color I painted my office, or if the furniture went well together. My piles of “research” behind me could remain; they may look like a mess to the untrained eye, but for me, they are accessible. My back would become a wall to the inside world, a signal no one is allowed to enter.
Perhaps I’m just at a time of my life when more is really less.
