Re: Opinions about Hampton Court
Hampton Court and Chelsea are two very different shows--Chelsea is very
posh and lovely and exciting to boot, but you can't buy any plants (not
that we can bring any home). Chelsea is compressed into a relatively
small space on the hospital grounds, but lots to see and dream about.
All of the various growers and plantsmen have booths in the tent and the
displays are fabulous.
Hampton Court is on the grounds of the palace, much more spread out and
has a more carefree atmosphere. There are vendors selling most of the
same products that are found at Chelsea with the addition of those that
sell plants. You see lots of people lugging pots on their way home--no
waiting for the scramble on the last day. Hampton Court is also a little
later than Chelsea so the gardens are a little more lush and the plant
material somewhat different.
It's really hard to pick a favourite. Both attract a lot of visitors.
Chelsea can be a little claustraphobic, but it is much better since they
got the new 'tents'.
