Any medications you're on should be kept in their original containers with
prescription label. This is as important to get back into the US as it
is to get into Canada. Do NOT unpack them and carry them in a plastic bag.
And yes, US citizens can fill prescriptions in Canada if they have a
signed prescription form from their physician. The pharmacy may check with your
physician because you're out of country.
Prices vary but on the whole, they are less expensive in Canada than in
the US. We also have generic brands that reduce the price and this is what
most cross-border shoppers are purchasing. Note that non-prescription
medications are also usually cheaper in Canada. Ask the pharmacist if you're
looking for something specific - many non-prescription drugs are available
but kept behind the counter.
Note there are some provincial differences between drugs and prices as
health care is a provincial responsibility.
