Interesting article about Facebook as a writing tool for professional writers

This was published in the LA Times just a few days ago <http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-fairbanks-facebook-writing-20150823-story.html>. Interesting perspective. I have had inklings of the same thing but this writer put it into words before I had even formulated mine.

Makes sense to me. I now run several facebook gardening groups and it is so interesting to see how easy it is to communicate about gardening on FB. It allows me to be hyper local which is of huge value to those aching for information relevant to our immediate area. When I donât know the answer to a question, someone else will pipe up - often several people. We all share our collective experiences and offer the kind of advice that just isnât possible to get from people who donât garden where we garden.

When to expect what to bloom? What bug is this? Whatâs eating my plant? When do I have to adjust my irrigation clock? So many questions that the group can respond to immediately and effectively

I didnât expect to use Facebook this way but itâs turned out to be amazingly effective and efficient. And like the writer of that editorial, some of my posts have morphed into larger pieces of journalism.

Interstingâ.
