Dear listers...I'm trying to figure out the pricing structure for my weekly 
column, The Hoosier Gardener, which I plan to self-syndicate to targeted 
Indiana papers. I've been freelancing a garden column in The Indianapolis 
Star for 12 years.

I don't think smaller, even medium size Indiana papers will pay what The Star 
does, so I figure I must adjust. Each column will come with art or graphic 
element that can be packaged with the text. (By the way, the contract I 
negotiated with The Star/Gannett does not restrict my syndicating the column 
this way.)

One of the questions I have is whether I should continue to get from The Star 
what I am being paid, considering the same product will be available at other 
Indiana newspapers for less? Some of the papers I have targeted are in the 
Gannett chain.

Any thoughts? If any one has proprietary information...such as what your 
pricing structure is for self-syndicated columns, feel free to e-mail me off
