RE: [GWL]: Advice For Photographers

Sheria,
This is a wonderful example of why GWAA is such a valuable group. There are
probably a dozen very successful photogs in GWAA who would not hesitate to
chat with Kevin for an hour, on his dime, answering his questions and giving
him ideas and encouragement. Start him off with Liz Ball, Linda and Allan
Detrick, and Walter Chandoah. Liz is mostly a writer who sends photos to a
photo agent from time to time; serious but not looking to make a living.
The Detrick's are about the most organized and most aggressive photog team
in the business and very willing to share info, and Walter is a giant in the
hort photog world and very very giving of his advice and counsel. Get their
numbers from the directory. Have Kevin call them saying that Jeff Ball
suggested he call. Explain what's going on and if they are busy they will
tell him and give him a better time to call. I suspect there are half a
dozen more on this list willing to chat on the phone, ask them to get to you
off list. That is what Kevin needs; experienced pros who remember what it
is like to just get started. That is what a professional organization is
supposed to provide, and "GWAA does it very well for the most part. So tell
Kevin to get busy. In a few weeks, he'll know exactly what he needs to do
if he decides to do it.

Subject: [GWL]: Advice For Photographers

Ok, hubby wants me to ask some questions for him. Please feel free to
reply to voulezvous@fwi.com His name is Kevin.

He is interested in getting into photography. Are there lists such as
this for photographers? What about job boards?

Any advice would be appreciated on how to go about breaking into this
market.

He is thinking of taking local photos and trying to get them used as
postcards. However, I am wondering who he would contact and if maybe
they already have a photographer commissioned.

He has never been published except for the photos I use that he takes.

Thanks,
Sheri
