Re: [GWL]: garden writing
Take(s) on Martha Stewart? Okay...
Martha is the woman everyone loves to hate. I had dinner some years ago with
a group of cut flower growers. There was a Martha-bashing session that went
on and on: Martha makes women feel inadequate because after working 8 hours,
cooking and hauling the kids around, most women just don't have time to make
their own paperclips; she passes off her staff's work or purchased product as
the fruits of her own labors; she's personally responsible for the hole in
the ozone layer, yada yada yada. And when there was a pause, someone at the
table said, quietly, "I don't like her either, but everyone at this table
ought to write her a thank-you note for what she's done for our industry."
Hearsay: Her plant line didn't do well at all the first year because of
supply chain problems and regionally inappropriate cultivar selection.
