Re: [GWL]: White List
John and others,
I've been aware of the White List for a long time and have contacted my
senator Russ Feingold about it. He promised to explore the creation of an
oversight committee--another layer of bureaucracy is not my idea of a
solution. Obviously, the White List is part and parcel of the patenting and
close control of plant and animal genes by a few corporations. As an
individual, and even as part of a small group, it's hard to fight such a
consortium of power. But, as gardeners and stewards of the earth, we can
save seeds, propagate what we can, catalog it, warehouse it and trade with
other like minded people and organizations. Seed Savers Exchange, for
example, has promoted this action for years as the answer to our dwindling
and increasingly controlled gene pool of plants.
As far as writing about it in mainstream publications, we all must try. I
have one forum that has accepted a short piece about the White List, and we
all must try to get out the truth to other places.
