Re: [GWL]: Grackles

We've had problems here in PA with crows. For months at a time, they'd
congregate by the tens of thousands on the roof of our largest shopping mall,
bombing shoppers and pecking holes in the rubber roof. Now they have cannons
mounted on the roof to keep them away. A bit disconcerting to listen to
while indoors; I think they've jacked up the background music to muffle the
reports.
Turkey vultures were causing similar havoc in a small town in the north end
of Lancaster County, roosting in trees by the hundreds, clambering onto
porches and pecking at anything they could find. If you think grackle poop
is bad, imagine the payload a bunch of vultures could haul. These are big
birds.
And in downtown Lancaster, blackbirds have whitened the sidewalks on a small
but busy street. With West Nile Virus already IDd in a few dead birds,
people aren't happy about it.
Where's Alfred Hitchcock when we need him?
