Wow!  I very strongly hope that Peter Loewer comes through the surgery in 
better shape than anyone else ever has.  He is an invaluable writer and 
educator.  I'll also hope that he can come to Boston some time in 2003, even 
if it is not at the Arnold Arboretum as scheduled.  Perhaps he could come to 
teach over a longer period than was originally scheduled with more time 
between sessions.  I keep hoping that Peter is a prototype of educator for 
the huge population whose parents couldn't grow petunias.  That group is 
huge, but I've found that around Boston good grammar, thoughtful opinions, 
and enthusiasm are embraced by people who can't tell rocks from maple trees.
