Re: FW: New CD's SHIGO reviewed

When I was a Master Gardener apprentice, I tried to use one of Shigo's books (a book written by and self-published by Shigo) as a reference. I then understood why he had had to self-publish. He knows a lot about trees, but not a lot about book use. I'd hope he has a more useful reference in his CD than in his book or books. Perhaps there's a search function. I'd hope so.

By the way I disagree with the gratuitous slap at libraries. They're trying to cope with drastic changes in information sources, satisfy the book burners who don't want abortion or stem cells mentioned, and supply good literature to those who want it. I've never seen a librarian enthuse over picture books. Margaret Lauterbach

Lon, I saw some of the Shigo "pages" when the work was finished, and he was
looking for a manufacturer for the CD. It is as outstanding as anything he
has ever done; and that is a lot. If you are trying to inform anyone about
trees and you aren't using Alex Shigo's work then you are doing inadequate
work.
Shigo should be as well known among people who educate others about trees as
Pope John 23rd is to religious writers.

Sadly, public libraries would rather have a picture book that has almost no
technical info than any of Shigo's written work. Libraries are entertainment
centers these days.
